the World the Oyster and You

About me

I am a retired GP and with my wife Lelly I have always had a love of travelling. This started with our honeymoon in 1987 when we travelled to Thailand. In those days going to Koh Samui involved travelling by ferry and staying in a straw hut on the beach as opposed to flying to an international airport and staying in a hotel. Work and children then curbed my travel opportunities but now that we are retired we intend to see the world and I would like to share my travel blog and experiences with you and hopefully give you some useful tips for your own travel adventures

How we like to travel

We are both in our 60’s and have left our days of hostels behind us. However, we also don’t need to stay in expensive luxury hotels and we like to stay in simple hotels with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning if it is hot. After that our needs are very simple. We love to sample local cuisine and to experience the local culture wherever we go. I have come to realise you can plan a great holiday with a bit of simple research and planning and can save a fortune compared to a tailer made package by travel companies. I also feel that the research that you do around the holiday also adds enjoyment to the whole trip. If this type of holiday appeals to you hopefully I can give you some advice about how to go about planning one.
