Eating & Drinking
Pasteis de Nata
Pasteis de Nata are available everywhere and are absolutely delicious! We ate a lot of them during our three days. All cafes will have them and we were surprised how good they were wherever we ate them. However, the most famous place in Lisbon for them is Pasteis de Belem which is right next to the Jeronimos Monastery and has historical links to the monastery. We had to queue about 15 minutes to find a table but it was fun to eat them in the building (although they do have a take away service) and they were fantastic.
Restaurants & Bars
There are so many places to eat and drink in Lisbon and the areas of Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré are packed with lively bars and good restaurants.
Having a drink at one of the bars at the Miradors is certainly something to include in your itinerary. We watched the sun go down at Pharmacia Felicidade at the Mirador de Santa Caterina which was beautiful
We ate out on the Friday and Saturday night and had a wonderful meal both times. The style of food tends to be tapas based. Finding a table was difficult as most establishments are quite small and tend to fill up quickly. We had a few names to try but they were all full when we arrived.
However, one of our choices on the Friday that was full gave us a recommendation for the BOAVISTA SOCIAL CLUB and we had an excellent meal there. The four of us had all of the 9 sharing plates on the menu which was an ideal amount for all of us – the smoked anchovies were outstanding as was a dish made with melon, peanut and watercress which was delicious. The total price for the four of us including a bottle of wine was €160 which I thought was pretty good value. It doesn’t have a website to book a table it only has an Instagram page.
The address of Boavista Social Club is Rua da Boavista 16
When we couldn’t get into it on the first night we booked a table online for TRICKYS for the Saturday night. This another small vibrant restaurant with a tapas based menu. We again had a wonderful meal with a range of interesting and tasty dishes. Cost with 2 bottles of wine for the four of us was €220. The restaurant is cash only. It doesn’t really have a website and the link below is just a link to book a table online. However we kept our menu which which I have scanned and you can see by clicking on the button below.
The address is Rua da Boavista 112
Both the restaurants were in the Cais do Sodré area and the whole place had such a good vibe. We went for a drink after our meal and when we left to go home at 2am the place was still just buzzing.
