Pyrénées-Atlantiques
We are lucky enough to have a house in the Basque Country near Mauléon-Licharre and it’s our favourite place in the whole world. It is the land that time forgot – traditional markets, stunning mountains, fantastic beaches, wonderful food and by French standards very few tourists. The climate is great in summer – it rarely gets too hot but tends to be high 20’s or low 30’s with lovely warm evenings. Of course, there is the occasional bit of rain – the Pyrenees mountains are all around- but showers tend to pass through quite quickly and rarely have a huge impact on your day. Therefore, if you enjoy active holidays – hiking, visiting markets, surfing or canyoning and, of course, eating then this is the place for you.
